It's not clear that a splash screen serves much purpose these days as modern
machines are so quick to load ecos.db. Nevertheless
http://wiki.wxwidgets.org/Embedding_PNG_Images has a neat perl script which can
be used to turn a PNG into C source which compiles directly into a wxBitmap,
which looks like it would plumb in quickly. There's also the small matter of
bringing the splash screen up to date (copyright 2002, has Red Hat logo) ...
