tcp/ip: address family not supported

Hi all,
when I'm trying to run the network tests I get the following error message

SIOCSIFADDR: Address family not supported by protocol family.
Network initialization failed for eth0

I'm using edb7111-2 as target and a win95 laptop as a server.
Can this error message be a result of a wrong configuration of the laptop?
(If I set up a ecos target and don't connect a network cable what output
should I get?)
Network setup is the standard eCos network setup, only I'm using "Adress
setups" instead of bootp.
( tcp-ip stack version = v1_0b1)

thanks, Rene
