You have to write your own driver for the ethernet card you use. eCos
provides generic ethernet support, i.e. the code which is common to all
implementations of ethernet card drivers.
As far as i know, there is just one implementation of an ethernet driver on
the i386 target, which is for an Intel-based PCI network card. The driver
was contributed by Fabrice Gautier if I remember right.
