They actually are found in a platform specific device driver file, not the HAL for the platform. Look at an example (from the latest CVS tree): Platform driver: devs/flash/powerpc/viper/current/src/viper_flash.c Generic driver: devs/flash/amd/am29xxxxx/current/include/flash_am29xxxxx.inl
