To answer my own question: I did miss something obvious - for my HAL,
the type cyg_halbool (in cyg/hal/basetypes.h) was defined as an
'unsigned char' and not an 'int', triggering the problem.
But it is a real problem: the prototype for serial_select() doesn't match
the implementation. I'll fix it.
