Remote packet too long with GDB/RedBoot

When I connect with Insight 5.3 or Insight 6.0 to RedBoot (i386/pc) I
get the following errors:

Ignoring packet error, continuing...
It doesn't matter if I connect via serial or ethernet. I also get these
kind of messages when I hit a breakpoint, stop or get the thread list.
GDB 5.3 is the prebuild i386-elf-gdb. Any idea what is wrong?
