Did you remember to switch the boot jumper (JP1, I think) to run from the alternative boot area? If you wrote redboot_ROM to run from the USER flash area (0x01100000 when you have boot from Angel in the STD area) then you will need to move this jumper.
I have run redboot on the EB55 perfectly well, following the documentation for the board at http://ecos.sourceware.org/ecos/docs-latest/ref/at91.html (I presume that this is the user guide you refer to).
Hope this helps

Subject: [ECOS] redboot & EB55
Hello, All.
I've got a issue with running RedBoot-ROM in EB55.
I did all steps described in RedBoot Guide(for EB55):
1. Run Angel via GDB
2. Download redboot-RAM
3. get connected to redboot via terminal and download redboot-ROM
image. then I have wrote redboot-ROM firmware to the EB55.
In case of connection to EB55 nothing goes on. Angel runs as usual.
Old anyone successed in running redboot-ROM in EB55?
