Ecos program output

I have redboot running on an MPC555 board, with debug set to serial port 1
and diagnostic set to serial port 2. The ecos programs I have built have
been built with the "inherit console" configuration on. Why does redboot
and the ecos programs do I/O through serial port 1? That is supposed to be
the debug port. I expected the I/O to be through the diagnostic port. Is
this the correct behavior?

Thanks,
