FWIW, I agree with this view.
I believe that the current practice of using the domain name of the e-mail
address of the contributor in the Copyright statements, comprises a correct
and traceable form of recognition to an eventual sponsor of some work (the
reason why it is traceable, is that this is the part that is not allowed
to change under GPL).
Just my 0.02 cents.
