I made (tried to make) ESCI to be a platform independent driver. I couldn't test
it because I haven't got MPC5500 project so far, but from what I've seen in
MPC5500 docs I am quite confident that it would work on MPC5500 as is (although
I wouldn't bet more than one beer :-)

Do you mean directory esci_h in the same parent directroy as esci i.e.
serial/freescale/esci_h? What would we accomplish? At present we have 2 packages
(CDLs) in a same directory (serial/freescale/esci). Is it a problem?
