I've only just woken up and noticed this patch. I don't think it should be
hooked into the serial driver. It's unnecessary and if someone wants /dev/null
and doesn't need a serial driver it will pull in lots of unnecessary baggage.
It will also be unnecessarily CPU intensive as it will be working a byte at a
time with the serial layer.
I think it should be implemented directly as a CYGPKG_IO device driver. NB it
will still work with libc's stdio with or without the fileio package too.
