AFAIR, having this patch on master is your approval to backport it to a
stable branch unless someone complains your patch is not stable enough.
I suggest to wait for objections for at least a week before merging it.

By the way, some distro maintainers have been backporting fixes for newer
GCC releases, so I agree with you this patchset is indeed important.
